It is not only important what a ministry does, but also what they are in the process. CTAN has certain Biblical principles we have adopted that guide our character and work. These principles are outlined in our Statement of Faith, Statement of Values, and Ministry Philosophy. They define and direct the ministry of CTAN as we seek to fulfill our mission.
Statement of Faith We believe that there is one God and that He is the creator of all things. He is eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Bible, Old and New Testaments, are the divine, authoritative, infallible, express Word of God, and the sole authority for living life as a Christian. We believe that Jesus of Nazareth is the only begotten Son of God, and became incarnate when He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He is the Christ, the Messiah, true God and true man. He existed from the beginning of time, lived a sinless life on the earth, died physically on the cross, was laid in a grave and rose again on the third day. He is presently seated at the right hand of the Father as our Intercessor, Mediator, Savior, and Lord. We believe that Jesus shed his blood on the cross as a propitiation for our sins according to the plan and will of God, in fulfillment of prophecy. Those who trust in Him for salvation and the forgiveness of sins are cleansed by that blood, forgiven, wholly justified, and born again of the Spirit of God. We believe in personal sanctification by the blood of Jesus and the Word of God, both in heart and lifestyle. We believe that divine healing was provided for in the atonement for spirit, soul, and body, providing for our salvation, physical healing, and deliverance. We believe in the doctrine of baptisms, including baptism into the body of Christ at salvation, water baptism in obedience to the Word of God, and the baptism of the Holy Spirit according to the Book of Acts subsequent to a clean heart, empowering the church to take the Gospel to all nations. We believe in the present day work of God the Holy Spirit, a person, in our church as in the first century church, to include the orderly operation of spiritual gifts, miracles, signs, and wonders. We believe in the resurrection of the dead: The lost to eternal damnation in hell and the born-again believers to eternal life in heaven. We believe that man was created by an act of God and in the image of God, not from previously existing life forms, and that he sinned and thereby incurred both physical and spiritual death, being separated by God; and through that original universal sin all mankind are born with a sinful nature. We believe in the physical return of Jesus Christ, the Messiah; First, to carry away His church and, Second, to establish His Kingdom. |
Based on our covenant relationship with God and realizing that belief without resulting behavior is ineffective, we adopt the following explanation of our values. These are the principles, rather than religious laws, that we have chosen to guide our lives in daily living based on our understanding of the character of God as His desire for a covenant people
. Statement of Values 1. We believe that the Bible is God’s written Word expressing His character and desires for His people and we choose it as our rules of order, practice, and conduct and as our sole authority for living life as a Christian. 2. We believe that God is the creator of human life and that man did not originate from previous existing life forms and therefore honor its sanctity as a divine act, seeing worth and value in all dimensions of life. Thus, we commit ourselves and our resources to the preservation of life for the unborn, the elderly, the handicapped, and the feeble. 3. We believe that God has ordained three institutions of authority on the earth: the home, the church, and the government, and these are to be honored and respected, working in cooperation for the well being of mankind, and we submit ourselves to the authority of all three. The home is for the propagation of the race and nurture of life, values, growth, relationship, and personal devotion to God. The church is for the propagation of the Gospel, ministry to the believer, and restoration of God’s glory in man. The government is for the propagation of the law, taking counsel from the Word of God, executing judgment and discipline for law breakers, and providing for the social well being of its citizens. 4. We believe that God created marriage to be a permanent and life long relationship between one man and one woman regardless of tragedy, trial, treasure, trouble, or transition of social norms or values, and thus we honor the sanctity of marriage and family. 5. We believe that while God made no provision for divorcement in His original plan of marriage in the garden, He still loves the divorced person and has a redemptive plan for their life. 6. We believe that children, to include natural born, adopted, and extended family, are a gift from and heritage of the Lord and are entrusted to the family and church for love, nurture, training, discipline, and discipleship. 7. We believe that it is entrusted to God ordained magistrates to judge and execute correction and punishment of lawbreakers, realizing that this may include a decision for capital punishment. We respect the authority and purpose of the magistrates, who will be held accountable for their decisions, and thus see the purpose of the church rather to evangelize and offer a plan of redemption to those judged and their families. 8. We believe God desires for His people to be holy as He is holy and therefore choose to abstain from acts and practices of fornication, adultery, sexual sins, homosexuality, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, murder, deception, lying, drunkenness, strife, gossip, envy, jealousy, and wild living. 9. We believe our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit given to house the glory of God, and thus commit ourselves to clean and healthy bodies and minds, therefore choosing to abstain from tobacco, alcohol, overeating, illegal non-prescription drugs, pornographic material, lustful pleasures, and other unhealthy habits. 10. We believe it is the desire of God to see the whole earth filled with His glory, so we commit ourselves to a life and ministry of reconciliation and restoration through our personal witness, church attendance, Christian service in the Body of Christ, community involvement, and personal financial giving. |
Our Ministry Philosophy
10 Guiding Principles
1. God is supreme over our lives and ministry and we desire to acknowledge and honor His supremacy through a life of prayer, praise & worship, and personal devotion.
2. God’s desire for His church is to care for and build up one another. We seek to do this through personal and corporate ministry that provides, promotes, and propagates encouragement, edification, and fellowship.
3. God has given each believer unique desires, purpose, ability, and gifts. As ministers of reconciliation, we seek to enlist, educate, and equip them in their unique design that they might effectively accomplish their purpose and the work of the ministry.
4. God’s desire is that none should perish. Therefore, we value the lost and unchurched throughout the world and will use every available Christ honoring means to mobilize, direct, and lead the Body of Christ to pursue, win, & disciple them through the Gospel of salvation, healing, and deliverance.
5. Christ has uniquely established the ministry gifts as the primary agents of God in equipping, maturing, and governing His church. Therefore, we promote and encourage the offices of the Apostle, Prophet, Evangelist, and Pastor-Teacher in the trans-local and local setting.
6. Christ has uniquely established the local church as the primary agent of God in expanding His Kingdom and developing believers. Therefore, we believe in the necessity of and active planting, developing, and multiplication of local churches as the primary and most conducive environment for reaching the lost and equipping believers.
7. God is a God of excellence and integrity and we seek to honor Him by maintaining a high standard of excellence and integrity in all our affairs, activities, and actions.
8. God is a God of all generations and we seek to maximize our ministry effectiveness by continuously evaluating and adjusting our procedures, policies, and practices while seeking cultural relevance, spiritual significance, innovation and creativity without compromising our principles or the truth and essence of scripture.
9. God has established the earth to operate in a divine atmosphere of order, relationship, and unity. Therefore, we honor the God-given principles of spiritual authority, Christian covenant, divine order and government, and mutual submission.
10. We support God’s unique and divine choice that believers be expressions of His glory in the earth and therefore commit ourselves to helping all people discover and live out the glory that God intended for their lives.
